The capture of Justin Atenas occurred in 2019 when a team of American special forces operatives of the Ghost Recon outfit captured the Santa Blanca Cartel lieutenant Justin Atenas outside the village of Culta before securing the abandoned town after an intense firefight.
Major Anthony Perryman and his team of Ghosts passed by the village of Culta while searching for intelligence on the whereabouts of the Santa Blanca buchones Zapatero Gonzalez and Gloria Fernandez, and, during their drive, they came across a convoy carrying Justin Atenas, a local lieutenant. The Americans gave chase, destroying the car's escorts before kidnapping Atenas and interrogating him for information on rebel activities in the region. Perryman then knocked Atenas out before leading his squad into Culta to deal with the cartel gunmen who had opened fire on them. In the ensuing shootout, the Americans overcame fierce resistance and cleared the desolate town of sicarios.
