The Capture of Iida occurred in November 1867 during the Boshin War, when the pro-Imperial Choshu Domain captured Iida, the capital of south Shinano Province, from the pro-Shogunate Nagaoka Domain.
Following the Battle of Shirakawa in late October 1867, the Choshu armies of Takasugi Shinsaku and Nanbu Motoharu invaded Shinano Province, which was occupied by the pro-Shogunate Nagaoka Domain. Yanagisawa Sadamori's Nagaoka army had marched into north Shinano, abandoning the southern half of the province to the advancing Choshu armies. In late November 1867, the two Choshu armies - totalling 4,855 troops - assaulted the South Shinano capital of Iida, facing a garrison of 750 troops. The Choshu army stormed and took Iida without a single casualty, and, when Yanagisawa Sadamori marched back into South Shinano to recapture Iida, the Choshu armies met his army at the Battle of Shimosuwa.
