The Capture of Ciudad Real (late July 1811) was a siege of the Peninsular War that occurred when an army of 673 Allied troops under General Thomas Picton and guerrilla leader Gregorio Larino laid siege to the French-occupied city of Ciudad Real, defended by 885 French troops under Victor Gaudin. The Allies stormed Ciudad Real and captured it with 105 losses, and the British decided to occupy the city in order to collect tax income to fund its campaigns in Spain and Portugal.
