Al-Amir (born 1146)

al-Amir (born 1146) was a captain of the Ayyubid Caliphate.

Biography[]

al-Amir was born in 1146 in Syria, and in 1176 pledged his service to the Ayyubid Caliphate at the head of an army of holy warriors. His 14,400 Muslim troops laid siege to the Kingdom of Jerusalem castle of Kerak on the Jordan River and captured it in 1178, seizing the castle in an assault that took two years to prepare. Serving as the governor of Kerak, al-Amir was in charge of the city's defenses, managing its defense against further Jerusalemite attacks in the area.
