Cao Yuande

Cao Yuande (890-14 December 942) was Duke of Guiyi under the Liang Liao dynasty of China.

Biography[]

Cao Yuande was born in 890 to the distinguished Cao family, a Han Chinese and Taoist family; he was the brother of Cao Yuanzhong and Cao Yuanshen. He was the independent ruler of Guiyi by the mid-10th century, but, from 937 to 938, King Liang Yong invaded his realms and annexed them to his Liang Liao dynasty. Cao Yuande became an important noble at Liang Yong's court, and he had four children, including Cao Yijin, Cao Wanyi, and Cao Yi. Cao Yuande died in an accident in 942 at the age of 52, and his clan fell from power during the Mongolia-Liao War; Cao Yijin inherited his noble title, but his daughter's betrothal to Prince Liang Jing was later broken, Cao Yu was castrated, and his brother Cao Yuanzhong and Yuanzhong's wife Temulun were executed.
