Cao Rui (205-239) was the son of Cao Pi and Zhenji, and the second Wei emperor, succeeding Cao Pi and preceding Cao Fang. Utilizing Cao Zhen and Sima Yi, he resisted Shu's Northern Campaign. When Shu and Wu joined forces against Wei, he defeated Sun Quan. However, when he learned of Zhuge Liang's death, he grew complacent and eventually squandered his country's resources on such endeavors as the expansion of his palace before he died of illness.
