Cannon Street is a street in the City of London which runs .5 miles parallel to the River Thames in the south of London. It was originally named "Candlewright Street" in 1190, but it was shortened over 60 times as a result of the local Cockney dialect and was eventually shortened to "Cannon Street" during the 17th century. The road was located at the site of the Roman Praetorium (Governor's Palace) and the London Stone, and Cannon Street Station is also located along the road.
