Canary Wharf is the secondary central business district of London, located on the Isle of Dogs in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Greater London, England. It was founded in 1802, and Canary Wharf, Limehouse, and Poplar became some of the busiest docks in the world. However, the port industry began to decline during the 1960s, and all of the docks were closed by 1980. During the 1990s, private enterprises turned Canary Wharf into an office and retail space. In 2011, Canary Wharf had 73,390 residents.
