Camilo Torres Tenorio (22 November 1766-5 October 1816) was President of the United Provinces of New Granada from 15 November 1815 to 14 March 1816, succeeding Jose Miguel Pey and preceding Jose Fernandez Madrid.
Biography[]
Camilo Torres Tenorio was born in Popayan, Viceroyalty of New Granada in 1766, and he became a lawyer in Bogota in 1791. He supported the creation of the Supreme Central Junta in 1809, and he became rivals with the centralist Antonio NariƱo due to his own federalist views. He went on to serve as President of the United Provinces of New Granada from 1815 to 1816, befriending Simon Bolivar and fighting a civil war against the State of Cundinamarca until Bolivar conquered Cundinamarca in 1814. Torres was captured by Spanish Royalists at the port of Buenaventura while trying to flee the Spanish reconquest of New Granada in 1816, and he was executed by firing squad in Bogota in 1816.
