Calvino Pallavicini da Genova was a nobleman of the Republic of Genoa who was briefly betrothed to Lucrezia Borgia.
Biography[]
Calvino Pallavicini da Genova was born in Genoa, Republic of Genoa to a patrician family, the son of Agostino Pallavicini da Genova and the brother of Raffaello Pallavicini da Genova. Pallavicini had Spanish blood on his mother's side, and he became a wealthy merchant, controlling a large fleet of ships. In 1497, he became a suitor to Lucrezia Borgia, and he was kept waiting at a palace in Rome at Pope Alexander VI's expense until Borgia decided to agree to their betrothal; she did so because she sought to be able to continue her affair with Raffaello. Calvino later discovered her love for his brother and attempted to have her marry him instead, but Pope Alexander refused to allow for his daughter to marry a second-born, and the betrothal was cancelled altogether.
