Caleb

Caleb was one of the leaders of the Israelites during the Exodus.

Biography[]

Caleb was born in Egypt, the son of the Hebrew slave Jephunneh. Caleb took part in the Exodus in 1491 BC, and he was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Canaan to scout the area ahead of the Israelites' arrival. Caleb and Joshua were the only two spies to encourage Moses to conquer Canaan, saying that God would be on their side, while the other ten spies believed that such a conquest was impossible. After the conquest of the Promised Land, Caleb was given land on the outskirts of Hebron, and Othniel married his daughter Achsah after conquering Debir from the giants.
