
Calan Kelly (1953-1985) was an Ulster Defense Association member during The Troubles.
Biography[]
Calan Kelly was born in Castlereagh, County Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1953 to a family of Protestant Ulster Scots. Kelly joined the Ulster Defense Association upon its foundation in September 1971, and he took part in numerous shootings targeting Irish republicans in the city of Belfast. Kelly was personally involved in around ten "kneecappings" to keep UDA members in line, and he became known as an infamous hitman. In 1985, he was assassinated by a Provisional IRA bomb as he entered his car outside of a Belfast pub.
