Cainnech of Eire

Cainnech of Eire (2 January 1073-) was Queen of Ireland from 1095 with King Focarta of Eire, succeeding Queen Aedammair of Eire.

Biography[]

Cainnech of Airgialla

Cainnech was born on 2 January 1073 to a lowborn Irish Catholic family, and she married King Focarta of Eire during the late 1080s or early 1090s, while he was still Count of Airgialla. Cainnech became Queen of Ireland in 1095 when her brother-in-law Eochaid of Eire passed away, and she had a pleasant relationship with her father-in-law Einri of Eire and with her husband. Unlike her sister-in-law, Aedammair of Eire, Cainnech loved her husband, and she provided children for her spouse.
