The Caimanes submarine base raid occurred in 2019 when American special forces raided a jungle outpost used by the Santa Blanca Cartel to base its drug-trafficking submarines.
Patricio Mendez Valle, better known as "El Cerebro", used a fleet of submarines to smuggle drugs from Bolivia to Florida by way of the Caimanes swamps and the Rio Habana. On learning of this operation, Ghost Recon major Anthony Perryman set out to destroy his subs. He led his four-man squad to an outpost along the Rio Habana where one of the submarines was based, ambushing a heavily-guarded base. The ensuing shootout took hours, as La Unidad interfered in the Americans' attack, and cartel reinforcements pinned down the Americans. Ultimately, the Americans were able to locate the submarine pen, and Perryman destroyed the sub with a hand grenade. The Americans were forced to flee from a Unidad attack helicopter as they retreated, eventually leaving the cartel and Unidad to fight each other.
