Cadoc of Gliwissig (497 - 21 September 580) was Count of Gliwissig from 523 to 580, succeeding Gwynllyw and preceding Erb.
Biography[]
Cadoc was born in 497, the son of King Gundleus of Gliwissig and Princess Gwladys of Brycheiniog. His father had him educated at Caerwent under Saint Tathan, and he also studied in Ireland for three years. Cadoc refused to take command of his father's army, dedicating his life to religion, and he succeeded his father as Count of Gliwissig in 523. He founded the monasteries of Llancarfan in Glamorgan and Cambuslang in Scotland, and later went on a pilgrimage to Rome. Cadoc was an occasional rival of King Arthur; he killed three Dumnonian soldiers in a skirmish, and he sent Arthur a herd of cattle as recompense. He died in 580.
