Butch Cavendish (1812 - 1869) was an American outlaw and gunslinger.
Biography[]
Butch Cavendish was born in 1812 in Illinois. He was the younger brother of Latham Cole. In 1843, Butch and his brother found a silver mine at Commanche territory and they killed all of them except a boy who was the one who brought them to the silver.
In 1869, we has arrested transported by train back to town, supposedly so he can be hanged. However, using a gun hidden on the train, he killed his guards and almost killed Tonto (the indian boy who survied). Hearing the commotion, John Reid broke his way in. But Cavendish held him at gun point. Tonto, however, grabbed another gun and held it up against his head, planning to kill him for what he did to Tonto's village. John, however, stopped him, so that he could be tried in a court of law. He then chained him back up, before emptying the gun while declaring that there's no place for guns where this train is headed. When asked where that is by Butch, he replies "the Future." At that moment however, Cavendish's gang broke in and freed him. Cavendish had John chained up and left him on the train, which his men had set to crash, before escaping with his men.
Butch Cavendish was the right-hand man of Latham Cole and he was responsible for the death of John's brother Dan Reid. He and his men killed all the Texas Rangers, and Butch personally killed Dan. He cut Dan open and devoured his heart. When John saw this, he vowed to take Butch to justice becoming the Lone Ranger.
Following several staggering Commanche attacks, he kidnapped Rebecca and Danny (The Long Ranger's brother's wife and son). It was here at his camp he first heared the stories of a mystical "ranger" who killed two of his men with one bullet from one of his men, Frank, who encountered John and Tonto. Although his gang was scared, Butch dismisses the stories of Dan Reid's ghost returning to get him and ordered one of his men to shoot Rebecca and Danny. Sympathizing with them, the man faked it and told them to run, only for them to be found by Cole.
At the mine, he forced the Chinese workers to continue mining all the silver. When told the men there were afraid and there has been a cave in, he simply shot the man who was complaining and told them to get back to work. He also savagely beat one of his own men down when he suggested they simply took all the silver they had and left while pointing out they were already rich, due to him declaring that he "wanted it all". However, following suspicious goings-on, he sent one of his men into the mine. When he didn't come back he sent two more men who didn't come back, but a mine car did. Suspicious, he and his men shot at it before investigating and discovering it to contain lit Dynamite. The explosion killed his men and disabled him. Captured by the Lone Ranger and Tonto, he mocked the Ranger by declaring he was as alive as he was, and that he was no different from him due to being just another "man wearing a mask".
Angirly, the Ranger beat him with his gun for what he did to his brother. Tonto tried to kill him, but still wanting him to face justice not vengeance and disillusioned from Tonto's stories, the Ranger took him away by leading him through the desert with his hands tied and pulled by the Ranger's horse. Eventually the Ranger found Cole and gave Butch over to him so he could be tried in accordance with the law and had justice.
However, as Butch was secretly working for Cole, Cole let him loose later, where he recaptured Rebecca when she escaped. Then, in a several way gun confrontation, he recaptured the Ranger. However, following a real Commanche attack and Tonto breaking in to save The Ranger, they were forced to leave. Wising up to the fact that they were both difficult to kill, Butch threw kerosene and lit Dynamite down the passageway after them deciding that should kill them, before leaving while unaware that they managed to survive the explosion.
At Cole's hostile took over of the Railroad corporation, Cavendish grabbed Rebecca and took her to the board meeting, where he helped Cole held the other share-holders at gun point so they were forced to appoint him the new chairman however, at that point, Tonto stole the train carrying the silver. Cole and Cavendish then chased after Tonto in another train, while the Ranger, on Silver's back, chased after them across the top of the train.
Minutes later, he and The Lone Ranger faced off against each other on top of a train, Butch used Rebecca as a human shield during the fight before seeing a tunnel, and dived down while holding her, assuming the Ranger would be crushed. However, he and Silver managed to jump down in time unbeknownst to him and the Ranger later catched up. Finding he was out of bullets, Cavendish threatened to throw Rebecca off the train. The Long Ranger, however, called his bluff, and Cavendish did what he said but Rebecca landed on Silver's back (just as the Ranger planned) confronting him, he asked the Ranger if he was going to kill him. The Ranger replied "that's right" and tried to shoot him, only to found he was also out of bullets. Butch drawed a knife while the Ranger held up his fists ready to fight.
Cavendish mocked him asking if "he boxed in college" but when he got distracted by Tonto on the other train, the Ranger punched him out before replying "for a matter of fact I did". The two confrontted once again minutes later in an unattached carriage. Drawing his now loaded gun, he pointed it at the Ranger. Butch then mocked him, echoing what he said to him earlier about how his train may be going to the future, but this "train is going straight to hell", only for both of them to be knocked about when the car knocked against another.
Butch then regained his balance, but the Ranger smiled while looking behind Butch and told him that he believed he was right and adds "enjoy the trip", before using his whip to grabbed a tree and escape the carriage. Butch tried to shoot him and quickly he pulled open the doorway only to see what the Ranger saw; the other unlatched carriages speeding towards him way too fast in order for him to escape, Butch was later killed when a cart collided with him.
