
Burwell Bassett (18 March 1764 – 26 February 1841) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-VA 12) from 4 March 1805 to 3 March 1813 (succeeding Thomas Griffin and preceding John Roane), from VA-13 from 4 March 1815 to 3 March 1819 (succeeding Thomas Monteagle Bayly and preceding Severn E. Parker) and from 4 March 1821 to 3 March 1823 (succeeding Parker and preceding William Lee Ball), and from VA-8 from 4 March 1823 to 3 March 1829 (succeeding Charles F. Mercer and preceding Richard Coke Jr.).
Biography[]
Burwell Bassett was born in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1764, the nephew of George Washington and the cousin of William Henry Harrison. He served in the House of Delegates from 1787 to 1789, in the State Senate from 1794 to 1805, and in the US House of Representatives from 1805 to 1813, from 1815 to 1819, and from 1821 to 1829. He died in New Kent County in 1841.
