Burk (827-) was a Danish merchant who lived in Jorvik (York) during the late 9th century AD. He was an abusive boss who had his employee Chad blinded after falsely suspecting him of theft in December of 875 AD, leaving him for dead on a platform under the bridge over the River Ouse in York. The Viking warrior Eivor later found Chad and took him to the bridge to seek medical help, but Burk and his thugs Åsmund Skjoldsson and Osvald Thormarsson came around to abduct Chad. Burk told Eivor to hand over Chad, and Burk had his men pick up Chad and bring him back to his shop. However, Eivor killed both of the guards after they turned around, freeing Chad and forcing a panicked Burk to flee in terror.
