Buren Robinson Sherman (28 May 1836-11 November 1904) was the Republican Governor of Iowa from 12 January 1882 to 14 January 1886, succeeding John H. Gear and preceding William Larrabee.
Biography[]
Buren Robinson Sherman was born in Phelps, New York in 1836, and he became a lawyer in Vinton, Iowa in 1860 before serving in the 13th Iowa Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. He retired as a captain after being injured at the Battle of Shiloh, and he served as county judge of Benton County from 1863 to 1866, as state auditor from 1874 to 1881, and as Governor from 1882 to 1886. He died in 1904.
