The Bukharan People's Soviet Republic was a short-lived Soviet state that governed the former Emirate of Bukhara from 1920 to 1925, with Bukhara serving as its capital. The republic was established after the reformist "Young Bukharans" summoned Bolshevik assistance in overthrowing the conservative emirs of Bukhara, and the Bolsheviks succeeded in overrunning Bukhara in September 1920. A new Bukharan People's Soviet Republic was established, leading to the Basmachi movement launching a conservative, anti-communist rebellion against the new communist government. In 1925, the republic merged into the Turkmen SSR and Uzbek SSR.
