Buka Suka Dimka (died 15 May 1976) was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Nigerian Army who led an abortive coup against Head of State Murtala Mohammed in 1976. Although Mohammed was assassinated, Dimka was captured and publicly executed.
Biography[]
Buka Suka Dimka joined the Nigerian Army in 1963 and was trained in Australia, and in 1965 he took part in the Nigerian Counter Coup alongside Murtala Mohammed, Sani Abacha, Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Bako, Ibrahim Babangida, and Theophilus Danjuma. In 1976, as a Lieutenant-Colonel, Dimka led a coup d'etat against Mohammed after he proclaimed himself Head of State of Nigeria ten years after fighting alongside him, and although Mohammed was killed, Dimka was arrested in the company of a prostitute in Eastern Nigeria after the coup was crushed. On 15 May 1976, he was publicly executed for treason.
