Bui Diem

Bui Diem (1923-24 October 2021) was the South Vietnamese ambassador to the United States from 1967 to 1975.

Biography[]

Bui Diem was the nephew of Tran Trong Kim, the Prime Minister of Dai Nam under Bao Dai, and he founded the Saigon Post in South Vietnam before becoming a diplomat. He served as ambassador to the United States under Nguyen Van Thieu, and he vainly attempted to secure $700 million in military aid against North Vietnam in 1975, the last year of the Vietnam War. After the war, he became a research professor at George Mason University in the United States, and he died in 2021 at the age of 98.
