Elmer Greinert "Bud" Shuster (23 January 1932-19 April 2023) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-PA 9) from 3 January 1973 to 3 February 2001, succeeding John H. Ware III and preceding Bill Shuster.
Biography[]
Elmer Greinert Shuster was born in the Pittsburgh suburb of Glassport, Pennsylvania in 1932, and he served in the CIA during the 1950s, infiltrating the Civil Rights movement and investigating its ties to communism. He went on to become a successful computer businessman, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1973 to 2001, advocating for transportation projects such as Interstate 99. Shuster was mostly unopposed during his re-election bids, defeating actress Nancy Kulp in 1984. He resigned in 2001 after being forced to give up his chairmanship of the House Transportation Committee due to six-year term limits, and his son Bill Shuster was elected to succeed him. He died at his farm in Everett, Pennsylvania in 2023.
