Bucentaure was an 80-gun ship of the line of the French Navy during the Napoleonic Wars that was launched in 1803. The ship was the flagship of Admiral Louis-Rene Levassor de Latouche Treville before his death in 1805, and Pierre-Charles Villeneuve became the new commander of the ship. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Villeneuve surrendered to the British; he was told that he was surrendering to Captain Pellew, and he believed that he was surrendering to the "gallant Sir Edward Pellew" until the British informed him that he was being captured by his brother, Israel Pellew, upon which he said, "England is fortunate to have two such brothers." On 23 October 1805, the ship was wrecked during a gale.
