Bryant Butler Brooks

Bryant Butler Brooks (5 February 1861-8 December 1944) was the Republican Governor of Wyoming from 2 January 1905 to 2 January 1911, succeeding Fenimore Chatterton and preceding Joseph M. Carey.

Biography[]

Bryant Butler Brooks was born in Bernardston, Massachusetts in 1861, and he moved to Chicago in 1871 and became a manufacturer of security locks. He later became a rancher in Alexandria, Nebraska, and he relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1880 to join a cowboy crew. He became active in the Republican Party and was elected to the state legislature in 1892, after which he served as Governor of Wyoming from 1905 to 1911. After leaving office, he established a ranch north of Casper, where he died in 1944.
