Bruce Poliquin (born 1 November 1953) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Maine's 2nd district (R) from 3 January 2015 to 3 January 2019, succeeding Mike Michaud and preceding Jared Golden.
Biography[]
Bruce Poliquin was born in Waterville, Maine on 1 November 1953, and he graduated from Harvard University in 1976 with an economics degree. He worked with a fund management company after college, and he became a Republican Party politician. In 2010, he became Treasurer of Maine under Governor Paul LePage, and he would be elected to the US House of Representatives in 2015. Poliquin was one of the most influential Republicans in the state, but he declined to run for the leadership of the state Republican Party in 2013. In 2018, he was narrowly defeated for re-election by Democrat Jared Golden, losing with 49.5% of the vote to Golden's 50.5%.
