Brother Giancarlo (died 1493) was a Benedictine monk from Florence. In 1493, he was hired by Micheletto Corella and Cesare Borgia to spy on Cardinal Della Rovere as he headed to Florence to seek the aid of Piero de Medici and Niccolo Machiavelli in opposing Pope Alexander VI, and he wore his hood to conceal his former assassin's scars. He received the Cardinal's confessions, and he discovered that the Cardinal was welcoming an army into Italy. When he asked if it was an invasion, the Cardinal asked Giancarlo if he was an inquisitor, and Giancarlo said that he was a Benedictine monk, but he accidentally addressed Della Rovere as "Cardinal". Della Rovere realized that he was a Borgia spy, and he proceeded to stab him in the eye with a knife, leaving the friar dead in the booth.
