Broder was a Danish warlord from 9th-century East Anglia. He was the brother of Brothir and Valdis, and he and his brother were known to be oafish and arrogant, despising their sister's groom-to-be Oswald of East Anglia due to his perceived weakness. Both of them were beaten down by Oswald's Viking ally Eivor during a brawl at the Elmenham longhouse, initially alienating them from Oswald, but they later came to respect Oswald and Eivor after Oswald proved himself to be a brave warrior in the battles with Rued. They played a major role in Rued's defeat at the Battle of Burgh Castle in 874, after which they attended Valdis and Oswald's wedding, where Broder drunkenly made homosexual advances towards Eivor, only for an uninterested Eivor to jilt him. The two brothers later joined Eivor's side during his campaign against Fulke in Sussex (despite Broder's continuing affection for Eivor, which caused him sadness), and Brothir was killed in a duel with Fulke's champion Tating Voss at the Battle of Donnington, while Broder was wounded in the chest.
