Broadway

Broadway is a road in the US state of New York, running from the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City through the borough of Manhattan and through the Bronx, exiting north from the city to run an additional 18 miles through Yonkers and to its terminus at Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County. It is the oldest north-south main thoroughfare in New York City, dating to the first New Amsterdam settlement, and Broadway soon became world-famous for being the heart of the American theater industry. It evolved from being a Native American trail in the 1600s to being a telephone, telegraph, and electrical line-infested commercial district in the 1880s, and to being the theater capital of America in the early 20th century.
