Broerec

Bro Gwened, also known as Broerec or Vannetais, was a medieval principality which ruled over lower Brittany in northwest France from 490 to 635 AD. It was founded by Christian Britons fleeing from the British Isles during the Anglo-Saxon conquest of England, and the Britons assimilated the remaining pagan Veneti Gauls and became the "Bretons". The Breton ruler Caradoc founded a principality centered at Gwened (present-day Vannes), and, in the mid-7th century, Bro Gwened merged with Domnonia to form the Duchy of Brittany. Bro Gwened retained its autonomy as the County of Vannes, and it was not until the 939 Battle of Trans-la-Foret that Alan the Fox united the titles of Count of Vannes and Duke of Brittany.
