British 6th Airborne Division

The British 6th Airborne Division was an airborne division of the British Army that existed from 1943 to 1948 during World War II. The division was led by Richard Nelson Gale, and it first took part in the Operation Tonga landings in Normandy, France in June 1944. The division would take part in the advance to the River Seine, the Battle of the Bulge, the Operation Varsity assault on Wesel, Germany, and fighting against Jewish paramilitary forces in Mandatory Palestine during the Palestinian Civil War in 1947. The division was disbanded in 1948.
