The damage from the bombing
The Brighton hotel bombing occurred on 12 October 1984 when the Irish Republican Army used a bomb hidden in a wall of a hotel room bathroom to blow up a sizeable portion of the Grand Hotel in Brighton, England in a failed assassination attempt on British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. UK Conservative Party MP Anthony Berry and four other people were killed, while 31 were killed. Patrick Magee, the man who planted the bomb in the wall of his room's bathroom, was arrested and would stay in prison until the Good Friday Agreement secured his release in 1999.
