Breifne

Breifne, also known as Breffny, was a medieval Irish kingdom which existed from 700 to 1256, with Dromahair serving as its capital. The kingdom was founded by the O'Brion family, but, by the 9th century, it was the O'Rourkes who were ruling Breifne. From the 10th to 11th centuries, the Kings of Breifne claimed the title "King of Connacht" after a series of wars. Following the Battle of Magh Slecht in 1256, Breifne was divided between the O'Rourke lands in the west and the O'Riley lands in the east.
