Brecknockshire is a historic county of Wales, with Brecon serving as its capital. The county is a mostly rural region, and it is bordered to the north by Radnorshire, to the east by Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, to the south by Monmouthshire and Glamorgan, and to the west by Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire. In 2011, it had a population of 43,376 people.
