The Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) is a centrist political party in Brazil that was founded on 25 June 1988 by a group of left-wing and intellectuals who had opposed the military dictatorship, and who had been politically affiliated with the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party. The leftist intellectuals would split into two camps and form two separate parties: the social democratic PSDB, and the socialist Workers' Party of Brazil. The two parties would become major rivals, and the two parties refused to form a coalition government.
