The Brazilian Labor Party (PTB) is a populist political party in Brazil that was founded in 1945. The party was founded by supporters of Getulio Vargas, and its main goal was to prevent a growth of Communist Party of Brazil membership among urban workers. The party's support came from labor unions controlled by the Ministry of Labor, and it was the third force in Brazilian politics until 1962, behind the Social Democratic Party of Brazil and the National Democratic Union of Brazil. The party was banned by the military dictatorship in 1965, but a center-right reincarnation of the party was founded by Ivete Vargas in 1981, claiming the legacy of the previous party. The PTB was shifted to the right after its leftist faction split to form the Democratic Labor Party of Brazil and Avante, and it later joined Jair Bolsonaro's governing coalition and became a staunchly paternalistic and liberal-conservative party. On 9 November 2023, it merged into the Democratic Renewal Party.
