Branko Crvenkovski

Branko Crvenkovski (born 12 October 1962) was Prime Minister of Macedonia from 17 August 1992 to 30 November 1998 (succeeding Nikola Kljusev and preceding Ljubco Georgievski) and from 1 November 2002 to 12 May 2004 (succeeding Georgievski and preceding Radmila Sekerinska), as well as President of Macedonia from 12 May 2004 to 12 May 2009 (succeeding Boris Trajkovski and preceding Gorge Ivanov).

Biography[]

Branko Crvenkovski was born in Sarajevo, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia in 1962, and he was elected to the Assembly of the SR Macedonia in the first multi-party elections in the country in 1990, leaving the League of Communists of Macedonia to run as a Social Democratic Union of Macedonia candidate. In 1992, he became the second Prime Minister of Macedonia after its secession from Yugoslavia, and he had the Albanian flag removed from Parliament in 1996, going on to turn his views around and legalize its display in 2001. He served as Prime Minister from 1992 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2004, as well as President from 2004 to 2009.
