Ibrahim al-Bakraoui was born on October 9, 1986 and was the older brother of Khalid al-Bakraoui, and they were born in Brussels, Belgium to a Muslim family. Ibrahim and Khalid were both criminals, and Ibrahim was arrested after shooting at Belgian police while robbing a currency exchange office. Sentenced to ten years in prison, he was released on parole in 2014, and in June 2015 he attempted to travel to Syria through Turkey. He was deported to the Netherlands after Turkish authorities arrested him, but there was no conclusive proof that he was a terrorist, so he was released. The two Bakraoui brothers joined the Molenbeek cell of the Islamic State under Abdelhamid Abaaoud later in 2015, and on 22 March 2016 they decided to work with Najim Laachraoui in a terrorist attack at the Brussels Airport. Ibrahim blew himself up at the airport with Laachraoui, while Khalid blew himself up on the Brussels Metro.
