Bouches-du-Rhone is a department in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of southern France, with Marseille serving as its capital. Its name means "mouths of the Rhone", and it was one of the 83 original departments created in 1790 during the French Revolution. The department strongly supported the French Revolution, forming 90 Jacobin clubs, and the department was a stronghold of the French Communist Party during the 20th century. In 2019, Bouches-du-Rhone had a population of 2,043,110 people.
