The Botswana People's Party (BPP) is a right-wing political party in Botswana that was founded in 1960. The party's structure was based on the African National Congress in South Africa, but infighting plagued the party, which became rivals with the traditionalist Botswana Democratic Party. The party's main objective was to liberate the people of Bechuanaland from British imperialism, a goal that succeeded in September 1966 when Botswana became independent. The party advocated for opposition unity against the BDP, and it emphasized the need for equality.
