Borisav Jovic

Borisav Jovic (19 October 1928-13 September 2021) was President of Yugoslavia from 15 May 1990 to 15 May 1991, succeeding Janez Drnovsek and preceding Sejdo Bajramovic.

Biography[]

Borisav Jovic was born in Niksic, Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1928, and he was a close ally and advisor of Slobodan Milosevic during the 1980s and 1990s. From 1990 to 1991, he served as President of Yugoslavia (serving one year due to the constitutional rotation law), and he supported throwing Slovenia and Croatia out of Yugoslavia by force, while retaining the Serb-populated areas of Croatia. He sought to give emergency powers to the Yugoslav People's Army to reverse the free elections in the constituent states of Yugoslavia, and Milosevic agreed to these proposals. In May 1991, Jovic left office. He died in Belgrade in 2021 at the age of 92.
