Boris Volkov

Boris Volkov (died 1929) was a Russian Trotskyist revolutionary. In 1929, he hijacked a Berlin-bound train and attached a carriage containing Svetlana Sorokina's hoard of gold to its rear, before dressing as a German railroad worker and taking the train across the German border and into Berlin. He was shocked to find that Sorokina had decided to reroute the cart carrying the gold to Paris rather than to Leon Trotsky in Istanbul as initially planned, and Volkov ran off with the train's documents rather than help Sorokina steal the gold back from the Trotskyist cause. He took shelter in Gereon Rath's room at 25 Bayreuther Street until Rath arrived and chased him out, only for Volkov to be kidnapped by two Cheka agents and driven off for interrogation. After revealing to the Cheka that the Trotskyists had smuggled gold into Germany on the hijacked train, he was run over with a car to make his death appear to be an accident.
