
Boris Trajkovski (25 June 1956 – 26 February 2004) was President of Macedonia from 19 November 1999 to 26 February 2004, succeeding Kiro Gligorov and preceding Branko Crvenkovski.
Biography[]
Boris Trajkovski was born in Monospitovo, SR Macedonia, Yugoslavia in 1956 to a Methodist family. He specialized in commercial and employment law and later studied in the United States to become a lay Methodist minister. The Yugoslav government confined him to a small village due to his religious activities, and he came to head a construction company in Skopje following the political liberalization of the 1980s. He served as a Methodist youth secretary in the former Yugoslavia for 12 years, and he became involved in politics during the 1990s. In 1991, he joined the VMRO-DPMNE party, and he was elected President of Macedonia in 1999. His term saw Macedonia fight against an insurgency by the Albanian UCK separatist group, and he advocated for greater inclusion of Albanians in Macedonian society. He died in a plane crash in Berkovici, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2004.
