Boris Donskoy

Boris Mikhailovich Donskoy (1894-10 August 1918) was a Russian socialist terrorist who was affiliated with the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries during the Russian Civil War. He assassinated the Imperial German Army general Hermann von Eichhorn on 30 July 1918, leading to his execution by hanging on 10 August 1918.

Biography[]

Boris Mikhailovich Donskoy was born in Gladkie Vyselki, Ryazan Governorate, Russian Empire in 1894 to a peasant family of Orthodox Old Believers. He served in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and joined the Socialist Revolutionary Party in 1916; he was later arrested for organizing a hunger strike and anti-government propaganda. Following the February Revolution of 1917, he was released and elected to the Executive Committee of the Kronstadt Commune. During the July Days, he fought alongside the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries against Lavr Kornilov's military faction, and he travelled to Ukraine in 1918 to take part in an international terror campaign against the Russian Revolution's opponents. On 30 July 1918, he assassinated the Imperial German Army field marshal Hermann von Eichhorn in a bomb-throwing in Kiev, and he was captured at the crime scene, interrogated, and publicly hanged on 10 August 1918.
