"Boris" was built in the dockyards of Sevastopol in Little Tatary (present-day Crimea, Russia) in 1805 when Tsar Alexander I of Russia planned to revive the Imperial Russian Navy to deal with the threat posed by the Ottoman Empire's navy. The "Boris" was captained by Iosif Prjevalski, and was sent to blockade the Ottoman port of Burgas in present-day Bulgaria. However, Prjevalski discovered that Almedar Sadik's ship "Kilik Reais", also a sloop, was docked in port. "Boris" withdrew to the middle of the Black Sea, but the Ottomans pursued.

The "Boris" attempted to capture "Kilik Reais" as an escort ship, firing chain shot and grapeshot in attempts to capture the ship. However, they were heavily hit by Ottoman cannon fire and Prjevalski was killed as the ship sunk.
