Borgarholt was a Norse settlement in Vinland, located off the coast of present-day Newfoundland. Borgarholt was founded in circa 870 AD by Viking explorers, who had arrived much earlier than later expeditions. The settlement was small and rudimentary, including a dock, a temple, a town center, and several buildings; the Viking settlers later built a dock on the western side of the island and launched an expedition to mainland Newfoundland, resulting in the founding of Hafr and Kopanes and, ultimately, the mythical Battle of Asolfsskali.
