Bonnie Watson Coleman

Bonnie Watson Coleman (born 6 February 1945) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 12) from 3 January 2015, succeeding Rush Holt Jr..

Biography[]

Bonnie Watson Coleman was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1945. From 1974 to 1980, she served as Director of the Office of Civil Rights, Contract Compliance and Affirmative Action in the New Jersey Department of Transportation. She then served in the Department of Community Affairs, on the Governing Boards Association of State Colleges from 1987 to 1998, on the Stockton University Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1998, and in the New Jersey State Assembly from 1998 to 2015. In 2015, Watson Coleman was elected to the US House of Representatives, becoming the first African-American woman to serve in the US Congress from her state.
