Bolingbroke is a village in Lincolnshire, England. It was the site of a Roman fortress which was later converted into an Anglo-Saxon stronghold; the Saxons named it Bolingburh, or "burh of Bolla's people". The old Roman castle was replaced by a Norman motte and bailey in 1220, and, in 1367, it was the site of the birth of King Henry IV of England, formerly known as "Henry Bolingbroke". In 1643, during the English Civil War, the Royalists used Bolingbroke as a garrison shortly before the Battle of Winceby. The castle structure fell down in 1815, falling into ruin. By 2011, Bolingbroke had a population of 325 people.
