The Boii were a Gallic tribe who inhabited Cisalpine Gaul (northern Italy), Pannonia (Hungary and its western neighbors), parts of Bavaria, in and around Bohemia (most of the Czech Republic), and Gallia Narbonensis (southern France). In 390 BC, the Boii invaded Etruscan lands and made the Etruscan capital of Felsina its new capital, renaming it Bononia (Bologna). In 193 BC, the Romans defeated them and reconquered the area, which became a part of Cisalpine Gaul. During the 2nd century BC, the Boii began to expand into Silesia in Poland, and they allied with the Taurisci against the Dacians. In 60 BC, the tribe was defeated by Julius Caesar when it attempted to invade Gaul, and the tribe's members to the east of the Danube submitted to the Roman Empire in 8 AD.
