Bohemia is a region of the Czech Republic, located in the west of the country; it used to refer to the whole of the Czech Republic in addition to Moravia and Czech Silesia. Bohemia was once an independent kingdom from 1198 to 1526, and it would be ruled by the Holy Roman Empire and Austrian Empire until Czechoslovakia was granted independence from Austria-Hungary at the end of World War I in 1918. The region had a population of 6,500,000 people in 2016, covering 20,102 square miles of land.
